Lockdown Christmas volunteers go above and beyond to help Marie Curie Cancer Charity


The awkward pauses and moments when speakers are on mute have brought lighter moments to difficult days.
However, Bob Crosbie has gone that extra mile and raised more than £3000 for Marie Curie Cancer in the process by bringing alpacas to virtual meetings.
The charity was one of many whose fundraising efforts and services were hit hard in the pandemic. With the help of dedicated and inspiring volunteers, the charity has been able to maintain its profile and awareness of what it does as well as adapting how they operate.
After weeks of lockdown, an alpacas farmer came up with a way to share some joy, offering some very special guests to join team meetings. ....

Zoom lifeline for Erskine veterans brought friendship and support through pandemic


FROM online concerts to virtual pantomimes or a phone call during the festive season, the veterans who would normally attend the Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Centre have a packed schedule coming up.
As with the programme put together by the staff at the centre following the initial lockdown in March, the 100 plus veterans have been connected throughout the pandemic with events online with Zoom sessions proving popular.
The Activity Centre on the Erskine Veterans Village in Bishopton has been a huge hit since opening in January 2018 but when lockdown restrictions came into force, staff knew that keeping in touch with the veterans was more important than ever so many activities moved online. The sessions were set up so quickly there was no break in service, but for some it has become a lifeline. ....
