South Oregon Coast Hotels / Lodges: A Sampling of Spectacular

(Coos Bay, Oregon) – Where the rocky spires and blob-like structures inhabit the beaches in great abundance, and intricate beaches lie along winding stretches of Highway 101, the south Oregon coast is a different animal. It’s more remote and certainly less populated than the northern half.
So it’s no surprise its lodgings and vacation rentals would have a different character as well: a kind of rugged individualism. Moreover, they’re astoundingly inexpensive compared to up north.
Here’s a few spectacular south Oregon coast lodgings at a glance, going from north to south. ....

Column: Positive momentum through relationships for Lake Tahoe

Mark Bruce, Chairman of the TRPA Governing Board
Like many residents and visitors of Lake Tahoe, I have had the good fortune of running, hiking, swimming, skiing, dining, lodging and otherwise living in and around Lake Tahoe nearly all of my life. Tahoe has played a vital role in the development of my most treasured relationship, with my wife Lisa, where we both learned to care for much more than ourselves, and where we were married 25 years ago on the west shore.
Over the years, Lake Tahoe’s spirit has inspired us to find, nurture and protect many other vital and beautiful Tahoe relationships, beyond just family, friends, and careers. Lake Tahoe possesses a spirit so spectacular that it commands us to think more about nature and community than ourselves. Lake Tahoe requires engagement in community projects, local government, and non-profit ventures to honor its legacy. It is a place where commitment, sacrifice and yes, great enjoyment forge dramatic relationships wit ....

Spectacular Yet Scary Images, Video from Oregon / Washington Coast King Tides

(Seaside, Oregon) – This past week, with numerous flood and high surf events, made for some spectacular but scary images along the Oregon and Washington coast. Documented in stills and video are some excessively stupid behavior but mostly jaw-dropping nature. You see the Pacific Ocean at its most angry at times.
Here is a compilation:
Today we opted to capture the coastline as Westport, WA braced against the first big storm of 2021. We
wanted to document the toll these storms are taking on our beaches and precious dunes. Also, to show you why ....

Roughing It on a Busy Oregon Coast: Seaside's Multiple Layers, Part III

At the Prom’s northern edges, at 12th Ave., things become markedly more deserted. This final access gives way to a host of chunky, wispy dunes, and eventually an estuary and the mouth of the Necanicum and its slightly weird mudflats. For some reason, people tend to migrate south of this rather popular entrance, but leave the northern section alone – which is where the river mouth sits.
Walk this stretch of perhaps a quarter mile or a little more, and you’ll discover one of the more unusual spots on Oregon’s coast, albeit deceptively so. At any regular glance, it looks completely average, perhaps even slightly boring and featureless. However, it cloisters a treasure trove of unbroken sand dollars – likely the most you’ll ever find on any beach on these shores. ....
