Loved ones say a final farewell to Fred Space at Space Farms Zoo & Museum New Jersey Herald WANTAGE — For a man who spent his life working with animals, it was fitting for the late Fred Space to be surrounded by them as family and friends said goodbye to him one last time. A wall of animal heads — along with the hulking taxidermy figure of Goliath the Kodiak bear Space used to feed chocolate bars from his mouth — greeted visitors to the walk through at Space Farms Zoo and Museum Sunday to pay their respects to the zoo's patriarch, who died last week at the age of 92.

Parker Space called his late father "an icon in the community" and a "wealth of knowledge" about anything involving animals. He also cited his father's relationship with his grandson, Hunter, as the two were "best buddies."  A post on Hunter Space's Facebook page paid tribute to his grandfather by calling him "the source of everything I know."  In a Facebook Live video shared by Space Farms in April, Fred Space recalled growing up in Sussex County during the Great Depression.
