Two days before the Budget session is set to go into recess, both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are scheduled to discuss the Union Budget presented on February 1 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh apprised Rajya Sabha on situation in Eastern Ladakh, and said that India and China have agreed on a disengagement plan for North and South Pangong lake.
Rajya Sabha will debate on Major Port Authorities Bill, 2020 while Lok Sabha is set to take up Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2021

NEW DELHI: Various opposition parties, including the TMC, SP, RJD, DMK, AAP, CPI(M) and CPI, raised strong objections in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday to a bill for developing the major ports in the country and alleged that it is aimed at privatising the ports and diluting the powers of the states on land use.

India: Stevedores face crisis as major port trusts-run berths head for privatisation
Facing a threat to their existence, stevedores and shore handling agents have urged the Ministry of ports, shipping and waterways to re-consider the policy to privatise the cargo terminals at Centre-owned port trusts, that are run by the State.
Stevedores and shore handling agents load and unload bulk cargo from and onto ships from the major port trusts run non-mechanised, common user facilities after buying licenses from the port authorities by paying an annual fee of ₹4,000 to ₹1 lakh depending on the port.
These entities are engaged directly by the exporters and importers based on competitive quotations to load and unload cargo.

Biggest structural reform of major ports
The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed a Bill that seeks to convert 11 of the 12 ports run by the Central government into “authorities” from the current “trustee” set-up, in the biggest structural reform of state-owned ports ever attempted by any government.

He further alleged that '
andolanjeevis' were polluting the pure motives of protesting farmers by hijacking well-intentioned agitations.
Modi made these remarks while replying in the Lok Sabha to the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address.
The Congress' leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, speaking to reporters after the walkout by his party MPs, said they were forced to do so as the prime minister did not say anything to satisfy the party's concerns over the farm laws.
