Fullerton will start enforcing parking regulations on street where homeless live in RVs Several RVs are parked on Valencia Drive in Fullerton, where the city will begin enforcing parking restrictions. (Ben Brazil) April 22, 2021 4:58 PM PT Print Fullerton will begin enforcing parking restrictions on a street where several homeless people have been living in their recreational vehicles. The City Council unanimously voted on Tuesday to implement the regulations on Valencia Drive between Raymond Avenue and State College Boulevard. The city had stopped enforcing the parking regulations due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now homeless individuals who live on Valencia Drive and activists who have been helping them are concerned about where they will go. ....
Dirk Wilson stood outside of his RV cradling his dog amid old broken refuse. “I served seven years in the Marine Corps,” Wilson said this week. “I thought I earned something there.” Wilson lives out of his RV, like dozens of others parked on Valencia Drive and neighboring Walnut Avenue in Fullerton. Wilson and other homeless people living out of their recreational vehicles have been at odds with the city. They say police antagonize, cite them and tow the vehicles they live in. “I won’t go to a homeless shelter,” Wilson said. “It’s like going to jail.” Local religious and legal advocates for the homeless have joined forces to try to find a resolution to the problem with the city. But an ordinance the City Council approved in November that bans all RV parking on public and private streets without a special permit threatens to further the divide between the city and advocates. ....
Fullerton Council Postpones Retail Cannabis Discussion Retail cannabis is coming to Fullerton, California, but the timeline has become increasingly unclear. Certain details about the ordinance, which officially went into effect on Dec. 17, were scheduled for discussion at the Jan. 19 Fullerton City Council meeting. However, the council narrowly voted to reschedule the conversation for Feb. 16. Mayor Pro Tem Nick Dunlap raised the issue of postponing the item so city officials could have “a more robust discussion” regarding fees, applications, and amendments to the approved ordinance. “This is something that the community has expressed a lot of concern with,” Dunlap said at the meeting. “They’re going to want to come in and … make comments. And I think we have the time to wait and do this the right way.” ....
Motion to Delay Retail Cannabis Sales in Fullerton Fails in Council An “urgency ordinance” seeking to delay Fullerton’s recent approval of cannabis sales within city limits has failed. The item received a majority 3–2 support at a meeting of the Fullerton City Council on Dec. 15, but urgency ordinances in the Southern California city require the support of 4 out of 5 councilmembers to pass. City Manager Ken Domer said the motion which would have pushed the Dec. 17 effective date to April 16, 2021 was a response to several concerns, including the lack of residential buffer zones and the “threat of litigation” from adjoining jurisdictions. ....
