Speaking to the WSWS as they voted, workers said the pay increase was around 6 percent according to their calculations. This is a real-terms pay cut—with Unite citing the Retail Price Index measure of inflation which stands at 7.5 percent and rising.

UK: Manchester bus drivers dispute Unite union's "victory" claim at Go North West

UK: Manchester bus drivers dispute Unite union’s “victory” claim at Go North West
Manchester bus drivers have called into question the “victory” pronounced by Unite the union after the deal it struck at Go North West ending the 11 week strike at the Queens Road depot.
Drivers related their experiences and views, both on the strike by 400 workers against the imposition of inferior terms and conditions through a “fire and rehire” on contract threat and the consequences of the agreement recommended by Unite. They spoke during a campaign by Socialist Equality Party members to win support for the reinstatement of victimised London bus driver David O’Sullivan.

Manchester Trades Council's Ian Allinson reveals British pseudo-left's role in betrayal of Go North West bus strike

Allinson is a typical representative of the “union activist”—invariably low-ranking functionaries and members of various pseudo-left and Stalinist groups, whose activism is carried out solely in the interests of the union bureaucracy’s imposition of the dictates of the corporations.

UK bus drivers push bosses back, continue strike as talks start – The Militant

MANCHESTER, England — Some 400 Unite union members at the Queens Road bus depot here are continuing their strike after making some headway when Go North West bosses agreed to end threats to fire workers and to start talks. The bosses had previously demanded workers sign contracts that included longer hours with no pay increase and less sick pay, or be fired. The drivers have been on strike since Feb. 28.
Hundreds attended a solidarity rally for the strikers organized by the Manchester Trades Union Council as part of May Day activities May 3. Colin Hayden, chairperson of the Unite branch at the depot, said that Go Ahead, which owns Go North West, had agreed to withdraw “fire and rehire” and declared individual contracts some drivers had signed under threat of losing their jobs null and void. Two drivers who had been fired were reinstated.

UK: Claim of strike "victory" at Go North West unravels as Unite refuses to disclose its rotten deal

UK: Claim of strike “victory” at Go North West unravels as Unite refuses to disclose its rotten deal
Almost two weeks after the Unite union told 400 striking bus drivers at Go North West in Manchester that they had secured a victory against the imposition of savage attacks through a “fire and rehire” contract, the rotten deal negotiated is being kept secret.
On Friday April 30, bottles of sparkling wine were handed round by pickets at the Queens Road depot in Cheetham Hill to celebrate after officials said the threat of fire and rehire was being “taken off the table” —barely a week before the May 8 deadline to dismiss anyone refusing to accept a £2,500 pay cut and an inferior sick pay scheme.

Manchester bus workers to vote on further 12 weeks of strike action

STRIKING bus workers in Manchester are voting on a further 12 weeks of strike action in their battle to protect their wages and working hours.
The strike by 400 Unite members employed by Go North West, part of the Go Ahead public transport conglomerate, has won support in the north-west and the nation as a whole.
Trade unionists will stage a solidarity rally outside the strikers’ bus depot on Wednesday after the new ballot results are released.
The strike started on February 28 after an overwhelming vote in favour by the bus workers.
Workers are resisting employers’ use of disgraced fire-and-rehire tactics to sack staff and re-employ them on lower wages, longer hours and worsened working conditions.
