Earlier this week I put out a call on the internet for mailbag questions. Today I have answers: Higher 2024 (and 2024 - 2025) ceiling: UM football or UM basketball? (-zh2oson)I feel like there are two different answers here, factual ceilings in an objective sports sense and fan enjoyment factor. The matter of fact ceiling is clearly still football, because the defense ought to be one of the very best in college football. That sets the floor pretty high and if the offense can be any degree of decent to good, Michigan is a top 10 team at worst, with even higher upside possible. Projecting men's basketball to be top 10 is extremely lofty, maybe a pie-in-the-sky scenario but one you don't think is likely due to how many new pieces are coming in and the likely growing pains. In a fan sense, I do think the upcoming basketball season could be more enjoyable than football, just because there's a fairly legitimate chance this will be the worst Michigan Football season since 2 ....
First broken by Sam Webb, Michigan intends to hire Don "Wink" Martindale to replace Jesse Minter as defensive coordinator. BREAKING: Wink Martindale hired as #MIchigan's new defensive coordinator. #GoBlue (FREE) https://t.co/Ztc7ztapBn pic.twitter.com/uF7T1iWrzz Sam Webb (@SamWebb77) February 9, 2024 Wink was the defensive coordinator of the Ravens from 2018-'22, meaning he's the DC who developed the "Ravens" defense that Michigan's been running, and was the coordinator Mike Macdonald and Jesse Minter were reporting to before leaving for college jobs. Mac replaced Martindale in 2022, and Wink coached the New York Giants defense for the last two years. If you're looking for a reason Michigan could pull a guy like Martindale out of the NFL now, the Ravens clearly chose to move on to Macdonald after 2021, and the Giants were 23rd and 30th in DVOA in the two seasons since, so the shine's come off. But he also checks the boxes that Sherron ....
UFR GLOSSARY is here. FORMATION NOTES: There's no way for me show them all. Here's Eagle Zero: SUBSTITUTION NOTES: Slight tightening of the rotations. Graham and Derrick Moore had the most snaps of the DL, with Jenkins, Grant, Stewart, Harrell out there about half the time, McGregor a bit less, a couple drives of Benny and Goode. LBs were mostly Colson and Barrett, with a dozen snaps for Hausmann in place of Colson and two disastrous snaps for Jimmy Rolder. Rod Moore went the whole way (no Sabb) with Paige giving a quarter of his snaps to Q-Jo. Will Johnson came off a snap after the one he overran Harrison; McBurrows got some nickel time before that, and M put Sainristil outside when Johnson went out. VIDEO NOTES: In recent weeks Fox has been abusing YouTube's awful policies for copyright control to harass anyone with clips from the game without regard to Fair Use. The best you can do is dispute the claim and wait 7 days for them to even bother to check if they violated ....
It's a bye week and I had sort of marked this in my mind as a week to just relax and enjoy college football and the nice fall weather, but then gestures wildly at screen happened and so here we are. There’s still a lot of unknowns and a fair bit of disinformation going on, so I reserve the right to be proven wrong with anything said here and acknowledge that in advance. I’m willing to take lumps on this but also feel like we’ve got the general contours and shape of the incident fleshed out. Worst: The Stupidity is the Stupidest Part ....

Special Teams. 5Q5A Offense. 1. Does losing Mike Macdonald matter? Probably. Unlike Gattis, Macdonald did not make a lateral move, and his trajectory from nobody to position coach to college DC to NFL DC speaks volumes about what the Ravens organization thinks about him. It's no disrespect to Jesse Minter to say that Michigan would have been better off if Macdonald had set up shop in Ann Arbor for several years. (Schematically, anyway. Macdonald reportedly loathed recruiting with the fury of a thousand suns.) HOWEVA, that does not necessarily mean this year's team is going to be hindered by the transition. Going from Don Brown's all-man all-the-time approach to the Raven's diverse collection of fronts and zones is jarring. A few different players had issues with the change or ....
