LAKE PLACID Voters in this village are heading to the polls today at the North Elba Town Hall between noon and 9 p.m. to choose a new mayor, two village trustees and a village justice.
With more than 200 absentee ballots to count as well as in-person votes, results of the election probably will not be available until early Wednesday morning. They will be posted on the Enterprise and Lake Placid News websites as soon as they are done, and in these newspapers’ print editions Thursday. ....

Lake Placid voters to elect new mayor, trustees tomorrow | News, Sports, Jobs

LAKE PLACID Lake Placid voters will choose a new mayor and two village trustees on Tuesday.
Polls at the North Elba Town Hall will be open between noon and 9 p.m. There are two candidates running for mayor and four candidates running for two trustee seats. All of the open positions carry four-year terms.
Absentee ballots will be counted after the polls close. Village voters who filled out an absentee ballot, but decide on Election Day to vote in person, can do so but only the in-person vote will be counted.
Running to succeed longtime Mayor Craig Randall, who is term-limited and cannot run for reelection, are current Trustee and Deputy Mayor Art Devlin on the Republican and Teamwork party lines, and former mayor Jamie Rogers on the Common Sense party line. ....

We are very blessed to live in Lake Placid and are lucky to have wonderful candidates for public office. On Tuesday, March 16, I will be voting for Art Devlin for Lake Placid mayor and Marc Galvin and Jackie Kelly for village trustees.
During my years as a North Elba Town councilman I had the pleasure of working with Art on many projects including short-term rental legislation, land use codes revisions, Lake Placid/North Elba community development, and Mirror Lake sidewalk repaving. Art is a hard worker, always prepared, and willing to listen. Art possesses a cooperative attitude and demonstrates innovative thinking. As a registered Independent, I am pleased to have the opportunity to support Art Devlin, who I believe is best suited to serve our community’s interests. ....

Lake Placid fund balance is appropriate | News, Sports, Jobs - Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:
Recent public comments by two of the candidates for village office suggest the current fund balance for the village is excessive and a future board should adopt policies. It is true that our village, compared to 12 years ago, is on sound financial footing. This is evidenced by the current credit rating of Aa3, exceptional for a small municipality our size with operating budgets approaching $20 million (includes general, water and sewer, and electric). Lake Placid is not a typical small municipality. It is equally true that fund balance should not be excessive as those funds essentially belong to the taxpayers. Generally, the growth of fund balance has been derived when departments have not expended all of their annual budgets and conservative management at all levels of the village has resulted in funds being returned to fund balance at year end. During recent years the village budget has employed fund balance to lower property tax rates, evidenced in budgets f ....
