In a meeting Thursday, Philadelphia City Council voted to ban the development of safe injection sites throughout most of the city, undoing the mayor's veto.
On Monday, 12 City Council members voiced their support for the project, following an attempt by an unknown person to scare away volunteers on patrol in Kensington.
The 76ers arena proposal appears to be on the track for legislative approval. Councilmember Mark Squilla, who represents the Center City neighborhoods where the arena would be built, indicated that an ordinance authorizing the project is being drafted. He plans to introduce it but say it needs "some community stakeholder support."
The Sixers are slowing the timeline down on their arena proposal, 76Place, which would be located in downtown Philadelphia.
