Saudi Arabia said Saturday it had executed a record 81 people in one day for terrorism-related offences, exceeding the total number killed in the whole of 2021 and sparking criticism from rights activists.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia on Saturday executed 81 people convicted of crimes ranging from killings to belonging to terrorist groups, the largest known mass execution carried out in the kingdom in its modern history.
The news comes a day after Saudi Arabia carried out mass executions that activists said included 41 Shi'ite Muslims, and amid stalled talks on an Iranian nuclear deal in Vienna.
The report did not give a reason for Iran's suspension, but it comes after Saudi Arabia put to death 81 people convicted of crimes ranging from killings to ties to militant groups, a group that activists believe included over three dozen Shiites.
