Storage problem causes loss of 75 vaccine doses in New Mexico

It was unclear how troublesome the loss of the vaccine would be for the state, given the limited volume of 17,550 doses New Mexico has received this week for front-line medical workers. Each person vaccinated requires two doses.
A spokesman for Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office said the 75 doses were en route from the state Department of Health’s warehouse in Albuquerque to Union County General Hospital in Clayton when a digital gauge indicated the storage temperature might be too warm. ....

New Mexico Reports 1,275 New COVID-19 Cases and 28 More Deaths—Four from Santa Fe County

December 15, 2020
The first COVID-19 vaccine continued to be delivered across New Mexico today, following yesterday s first shots at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, where 112 health care workers caring for COVID-19 patients received the vaccine.
On her second day on the job, Health Secretary-Designate Dr. Tracie C. Collins lauded the vaccine distribution in a news conference this morning: Today we begin to turn the tide, she said, protecting ourselves and our communities and moving past this terrible virus toward a brighter day.
As for giving out the vaccine, she said, the principle here is simple for the initial doses: They will go to those most at risk of exposure. That means front-line health care workers first. The next group will be staff and residents in long-term care facilities (currently, the health department has identified at least one case of COVID-19 among staff or residents at more than 140 long-term care facilities acros ....
