Police investigate death in Elkhart County


ELKHART — The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a man that occurred Thursday morning.
Elkhart County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a call of a domestic dispute involving weapons at a house in the 23000 block of Florence Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. Officers found an unconscious 35-year-old man and a woman who sustained lacerations. Her age was not known at the time.
The woman was airlifted to a hospital, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case remains under investigation.

Woman treated for injuries in acid attack


SOUTH BEND — The St. Joseph County Special Victims Unit is investigating an incident where a woman was splashed with acid.
The attack occurred early Tuesday in the 3400 block of East Jefferson Boulevard, according to police. The woman is still being treated at an area hospital. No arrests have been made in the case.

SOUTH BEND — An airplane made an emergency landing at South Bend International airport after taking off on Saturday morning.

South Bend organization offers training for turning ideas into action


SOUTH BEND — Practice, as the saying goes, makes perfect.
That is the guiding philosophy of the Neighborhood Resources Connection’s community academy, which is a six-week program that provides participants with community building training, according to Grant Carlile, director of the Neighborhood Resources Connection.
Carlile said that becoming an effective and efficient community builder takes practice, just like being a painter, musician or golfer takes practice.
“If we are playing an instrument or doing theater or painting we practice doing it as artisans to get better at it,” Carlile said. “And that is the approach that we take with community building.
