West Springfield and neighboring communities push for vaccination site at Big E
Updated Mar 03, 2021;
West Springfield and its regional partners refreshed Wednesday an application to the state for a regional COVID-19 vaccination site at The Big E grounds on Memorial Avenue.
The regional consortium of West Springfield, Westfield, Agawam and Southwick has added two more towns: Granville and Tolland. Hampden County Sheriff Nicholas Cocchi and his department are also part of the effort.
Westfield Mayor Donald Humason said Wednesday that Baystate Health has also pledged to participate.
“So our consortium is growing,” he said.
The state turned down the west-of-the-river communities last week citing a lack of vaccine supply. But the Executive Office of Health and Human Services told the consortium that it wasn’t a hard “no” and that The Big E would be considered if the supply of vaccines increased
