Gayle King, co-host of CBS THIS MORNING, will anchor TULSA 1921: AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY, a one-hour CBS News primetime special marking the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Massacre, to be broadcast Monday, May 31 9PM on CBS32.
Featuring first-person storytelling by 17 survivors, descendants, historians and thought leaders, TULSA 1921: AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY will look at the worst massacre on American soil ever, which unfolded on May 31 and June 1, 1921, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On those two days, white Tulsans attacked, killed, destroyed and pillaged their Black neighbors, leaving about 300 people dead and razing a business district in the Greenwood section of Tulsa known as Black Wall Street ....

The McGillicuddy fellowship showcase: An annual opportunity for enlightenment – The Maine Campus

Michael Socolow, director of the Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center, and Karen Sieber, a humanities specialist at the center, were excited to introduce this year’s four McGillicuddy’s students. While their research differed in topics, students Hailey Cedor, Nola Prevost, Nolan Altvater and Katherine Reardon all had the same idea of sharing the truth in mind.
 
The truths that these four students have spent the past year chasing range from the retelling of family history to reparations for the Holocaust from the influence of men in fairytales to the treatment of Wabanaki people both in the past and present. ....

McGillicuddy Humanities Center awards spring faculty grants - UMaine News


The Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center at the University of Maine has announced the Spring 2021 faculty awards. The Center’s mission includes demonstrating the immediacy and applicability of humanities studies, and it supports programs and projects fostering intellectual curiosity, critical reflection and creative innovation.  
Susan Camp, adjunct associate professor of art, received funding for â€Duet,” a collaborative project melding original poetry by Kay Retzlaff, a University of Maine at Augusta professor of English, with photographs of Camp’s ephemeral sculptures to investigate the concept of the Feminine Divine while bringing ancient myths into present times.
Assistant professor of history Mary Freeman received funding support for two projects examining the historical legacy of nineteenth-century Black political activism in Maine. A July 22 virtual panel, presented in collaboration with the Maine Historical Society will fea ....
