Chinese groups seek a little leniency in SOP for CNY

PETALING JAYA: Chinese associations and religious groups have voiced concerns over the standard operating procedure on Chinese New Year, saying that movement restrictions were necessary to curb infections but hope the government would be more mindful and lenient with such rulings.
Federation of Taoist Associations Malaysia president Tan Hoe Chieow said the government should allow family members who live within a 10km radius to have the reunion dinner together at home.

Bad roads a bane for Klang motorists

UNEVEN surfaces due to crumbling asphalt, sunken patches caused by badly repaved roads and potholes have made driving on several roads in Klang unnerving for motorists.
It has also made riding dangerous for motorcyclists as they could cause two-wheelers to veer off the road into oncoming traffic, or worse, throw the riders off their machines.
Uneven surfaces are especially prevalent along 3.5km of the busiest thoroughfare from Bank Islam on Jalan Meru until Pasar Besar Meru.

Eateries lament as bookings for CNY dinners drop

PETALING JAYA: Bookings for the pre-Chinese New Year appreciation dinner (sau kong dinner) among companies have dropped drastically this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Only a handful of employers are still considering organising such dinners for their staff, and there are also fewer inquiries and bookings for Chinese New Year reunion dinners.
Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Ku Su Shin Choong Hung Restaurants Association chairman Datuk Lum Tuck Loy said most companies are skipping the appreciation dinner due to cost and health concerns.
“Bookings would usually be full by now as companies and employers start to make inquiries and reservations, beginning from December right up to before Chinese New Year.
