The New York Yankees are set to add a World Series champion ahead of the season.
Things have started to get clearer for the New York Mets after the Opening Day game as the club released veteran pitcher Mike Montgomery.
The 31-year-old’s free agency didn’t last long as the Yankees have now agreed to a deal with Montgomery in a minor league, Robert Murray of FanSided reported.

MLB Rumors: New York Yankees, Mets Close To Signing All-Star Players

MLB Rumors: New York Yankees, Mets Close To Signing All-Star Players

New York Yankees fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Second baseman DJ LeMahieu is expected to re-sign with the club, erasing concerns that he might head elsewhere in free agency.
An agreement between the Yankees and LeMahieu could be finalized Friday, according to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi. Earlier this week, LeMahieu began speaking with other teams because New York was not meeting his asking price, Yahoo Sports reported.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets had both shown interest in LeMahieu.
Had LeMahieu gone to another team, it would’ve been a devastating loss for the Yankees. The infielder has been the team’s best player since joining them for the 2019 season, during which he was an All-Star. In the 2020 season, he became the first player in the modern era to win the batting title in both leagues.

The New York Mets are expected to be big spenders this offseason after being purchased by hedge-fund billionaire Steve Cohen. It appears they have their sights set on some of baseball's top free agents.
New York is interested in arguably the best pitcher and hitter on the market. The Mets are “moving closer” to George Springer and Trevor Bauer, the Star-Ledger’s Bob Klapisch reports. SNY has also reported that New York is looking to sign Springer.
Catcher J.T. Realmuto is considered by many to be the best catcher available. However, the Mets are more interested in signing the Chicago White Sox's James McCann, who is reportedly close to agreeing to a four-year deal, according to baseball insider Ken Rosenthal.
