New York Asian Burlesque Extravaganza goes online


Calamity Chang is back on stage  and she s bringing the show to a screen near you.
Chang, the burlesque bombshell, is co-presenting the New York Asian Burlesque Extravaganza via Zoom at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 21.

Chang and Jen Gapay s Thirsty Girl Productions are presenting the online spectacular in lieu of the eighth annual New York Asian Burlesque Festival, originally scheduled for May 2020 and postponed until this fall.
Even the virtual showcase, originally planned for July 2020, was postponed by nearly a year due to last summer s movement for racial equity. ....

With two children and a third on the way, Heather and Patrick Healy decided their 1,900-square-foot home in New Providence was just too small. Knowing the real estate market was hot early this year, the couple figured looking in the million-dollar range would give them a cushion. But the market was just too tough.
They lost out in bidding wars for homes in Chatham and Basking Ridge before snaring a Basking Ridge 4,300-square-foot colonial revival built in the 1980s. The purchase price: $1,082,000.       
There s no room for negotiations, said Heather Healy, 34. You have to be willing to pull the trigger right away. ....

Asian Americans in North Jersey after witnessing unprovoked race-based attacks as Asians have been scapegoated for the COVID-19 pandemic that originated in Wuhan, China.
But Asian Americans are harnessing that emotion and using it to fuel a mass movement designed to stem the tide of hate against Asians. In cities across the United States in recent weeks, tens of thousands of people took to the streets to demonstrate. 
More than 150 years after Asians first settled in America,  Asian Americans are for the first time mobilizing en masse in a civil rights movement. The recent attacks have prompted many to speak out for the first time, shedding cultural norms. ....
