Letters: Why are voters flocking to the Tories when quality of life is declining? - Vimarsana News

Letters: Why are voters flocking to the Tories when quality of life is declining?

Politically puzzled AT the same time as you highlighted a report on the dismally poor, and still declining, quality of life indicators in Redcar and Cleveland (D&S Times, May 7), we are hearing of significant gains for the Conservatives in the recent elections. I am puzzled why after 11 years of Conservative government and several years of having Tory MPs and a Tory mayor, people in this region are still flocking to the Conservatives at the ballot box. Andrew Welford, Scaling, Saltburn. THE new Tory battle cry appears to be "Time for Change". Change from what? In my 70-plus years near...

Letters: Climate crisis is real | Darlington and Stockton Times

Climate crisis: I FELT that I must respond to Martin Coady’s letter (D&S Times letters, Apr 30) “Renewable energy”.

Letters: Disappointing to see only one female candidate running for crime commissioner role - Vimarsana News

Letters: Disappointing to see only one female candidate running for crime commissioner role

Crime candidates I HAVE been disappointed to see that, in the upcoming elections on May 6, there is only one female candidate standing in North Yorkshire. We have now had two women prime ministers and currently have 219 women MPs, so, I had hoped to see more representation in our local candidates. I have been following Alison Hume’s campaign for Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner with interest. Alison has made several pledges, addressing issues critical for North Yorkshire, including drug dealing and wildlife crime. She is also the only candidate who has pledged to tackle violence agai...

Letters: 'We sincerely hope that our neighbours are able to work alongside us in bid to reopen Travellers Rest'

Travellers Rest IN response to David Wilkinson (no relation to my husband Dave Wilkinson) and his letter “Pub dreams” (D&S Times letters, Mar 26). I was saddened to read the views of Mr Wilkinson regarding the anticipated reopening of the much missed Travellers Rest in Skeeby. Unlike him I do not consider Skeeby as my village, more our village and as such am hoping that Skeeby Community Pub Society (SCPS) are able to successfully negotiate a mutually acceptable deal with the current owner and bring back a valuable community asset which will offer the residents of Skeeby and its visi...

Letters to the editor: 'Give us our Northallerton trees – in the ground, not in coffins' - Vimarsana News

Letters to the editor: 'Give us our Northallerton trees – in the ground, not in coffins'

High Street trees I READ with great sadness of the decision by Hambleton District Council to decide against planting trees in Northallerton High Street and use planters instead due to opposition from the Showman’s Guild. “Protest as tree plans changed for planters” (D&S Times, Feb 19). Northallerton High Street like many other high streets around the country will have to evolve from mainly retail to a blend of retail, hospitality and residential if it is to survive. The addition of an attractive public space in the centre of the town would be a key part in this, encouraging visito...
