Springfield crime: 6 men charged with various weapon charges
All six are in custody of the Sangamon County Jail. Charged were Anthony Strange, 24; Mysean Burden, 18; Jahquel D. Pearsall, 18; Michael A. Smith, 27; Jerry E. Broomfield, 18 and Michael A. Benning, 19, all of Springfield. Smith, Broomfield and Benning all face armed violence charges. The Class X felony is punishable by 15 to 30 years behind bars. All three were arrested together by the Springfield Police Department's Street Crimes Unit when a vehicle they were in attempted to elude officers in the 1200 block of South Dirksen Parkway late Friday evening.
