Tears flowed in a Monroe courtroom Thursday morning as family members reflected on their lost loved ones who they said were taken too soon by the negligence and poor decisions of one man.
Monroe County s 38th Circuit Judge Michael A. Weiper sentenced Ryan Miettinen to serve 9 to 40 years in prison for the fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the lives of two women on June 26, 2020.
The judge ordered the defendant to serve the sentences consecutively, meaning the number of years doubled. Miettinen, 22, of Willis, must serve a minimum of 18 years before being eligible for parole.
The victims in the case are Coleen Huling, 29, and Melissa Williamson, 25. Both had been riding their bicycles in London Township when the vehicle driven carelessly by Miettinen swerved and struck them. The driver then fled the scene. ....
