Senate Oversight Committee chair wants Benson to attend hearing David Eggert/AP and last updated 2021-04-05 13:13:20-04 LANSING, Mich. â GOP members of the Michigan Senate Oversight Committee are asking Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson to testify at a hearing in the coming weeks. Instead of having Benson participate in the hearing, her office plans to send Director of Elections Jonathan Brater in her place, according to a letter from the committee. However, Sen. Edward McBroom says itâs âimperativeâ that the stateâs chief election officer, Benson, also be present at a hearing on elections. âThe invitation for you to speak before the committee was provided well in advance, with a commitment to openness and transparency,â McBroom said. âTo be respectful of your time and ensure the hearing is productive, I even agreed to a pre-committee meeting to allow you the ability to prepare your answers in advance and to understand the objectives of the committee. Your decision to refuse our invitation, while recently testifying in front of the United States Congress on election procedures and policies, directly managed by Mr. Brater, is disappointing and perplexing.â
Benson: More than 250 election audits confirm 'accuracy & integrity' of Michigan's general election File and last updated 2021-03-02 11:04:55-05 (WXYZ) â More than 250 election audits in Michigan have been completed, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced Tuesday. Benson said the audits confirmed the "accuracy and integrity" of the 2020 general election in Michigan. More than 1,300 Republican, Democrat and nonpartisan clerks, along with the state Bureau of Elections, participated in at least one audit. âOver the last several months, the state Bureau of Elections has worked with local clerks to conduct more audits than ever before in our stateâs history, and each has reaffirmed the accuracy, security and integrity of the November 2020 election,â said Benson. âWeâve responded to every question and claim and the evidence is clear. It is time for leaders across the political spectrum to tell their constituents the truth, that our election was the most secure in history, and the results accurately reflect the will of Michiganâs voters.â
