Twins mascot used to be a juggling loon

MINNEAPOLIS -- T.C. Bear doesn't talk while in character -- but he made an exception for Alan Johnson.
At the invitation of team historian and curator Clyde Doepner, Johnson took his wife and two grown children to Target Field for a sunny day game in 2019, and clad in a white Twins home jersey and jeans, he threw a successful first pitch to the Twins' mascot. He and the bear got together for a photo, and as they walked off the mound, T.C. drew Johnson closer.
"You don't know this, but back in 1980, '81, I was 7 years old at the Old Met watching a game, and I saw you, and you gave me one of your picture cards and signed it for me," the mascot told him quietly. "I still have that."

Lasorda’s wife of 70 years, Jo, attended in a wheelchair, along with their daughter, Laura. The mourners stood socially distanced around the mound.
Former Dodgers catcher and Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia, retired player and major league manager Bobby Valentine, retired Dodgers first baseman Eric Karros, retired player and coach Mickey Hatcher, former Dodgers pitcher Charlie Hough, and former NBA coach Mike Fratello were among the 10 pallbearers. The Dodgers held a celebration of life for Tommy Lasorda on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium, with a small group of former players, family, and friends paying tribute to the Hall of Fame manager who died on Jan. 7.
Keith Williams Jr. sang the national anthem before the event, and per the Dodgers, the pallbearers were Eric Karros, Mickey Hatcher, Bobby Valentine, Charlie Hough, Mike Scioscia, Steve Brener, Michael Greenberg, Chris Leggio, Warren Lichtenstein, and Mike Fratello.
“The impact, the loyalty, the love, the passion with which he did everything, it’s second to none. I’m going to miss him. We’re all going to miss him. But he had a heck of a run,” Karros said during the event. “He didn’t do well in the hospital, I was able to visit him. But you know what one thing that kept him going? He was going to get home to see Jo. As great as Tommy was, Jo was his backbone. I thank Jo, Laura, and Emily Tess for sharing Tommy with us.

Claire Tells Of Amazing Life Journey In Extra Innings

Claire Tells Of Amazing Life Journey In Extra Innings
Extra Innings - Fred Claire's Journey to City of Hope and Finding a World Championship Team is an amazing read.
22 miles northeast of Los Angeles is Duarte, California. This is where City of Hope Medical Center rests on 100-plus acres. World changing cancer research and treatment takes place there, and has been for many years. Thanks to Claire telling his story to author Tim Madigan in Extra Innings (mascotbooks.com), the word is out to so many more people on just what a medical jewel City of Hope  is.
For many, as is the case with myself, it's Claire's background in professional baseball that has brought to light about the lives City of Hope touches everyday.  For 30 years, Dodger Stadium was Claire's  workplace. Hired in July of 1969 as a member of the Dodgers' public relations department, Claire worked his way up to being named the club's general manager in April 1987.

Worst All-Time Twins Tournament, Tsuyoshi Nishioka Round, Game 6: First is the worst

Result
As in Game 2, the Game 6 rematch between aces Brad Havens and Ray Scarborough was decided by one bad inning.
In this case, the bad inning came earlier.
And it was much, much worse.
‘81 batted around in the first, sending 11 men to the plate and scoring seven runs to take a dominant lead they would not lose, claiming victory by an 8-1 tally and knotting the series at three.
Scarborough’s struggles started one batter into the game, as Gary Ward sent a fly ball over the left field wall for an early 1-0 lead. After a strikeout, Scarborough loaded the bases on a walk and two singles, and Kent Hrbek sent a fly to center deep enough to score John Castino.

Worst All-Time Twins Tournament, Tsuyoshi Nishioka Round, Game 1: Scared hitless

Result
‘48 and
They got ace-like performances, but one shone brilliantly.
Roger Erickson pitched a complete game one-hitter, shutting out
‘48 2-0 to push
‘81 one game closer to a bracket escape.
Erickson allowed just two baserunners in his Maddux, a Mickey Vernon single and Sherry Robertson walk the only blemishes through 99 pitches.
On the opposing rubber, Walt Masterson nearly matched Erickson’s performance, allowing three hits over 6.2 innings.
However, one of those hits left the Senators playing from behind, as Roy Smalley opened the bottom of the fourth by lining Masterson’s second pitch into the right field bullpen for a solo home run.

Worst All-Time Twins Tournament, Ricky Nolasco Round, Day 4: It's a Smalley world after all

Smalley’s ninth-inning two-run home run turned a 9-8 defeat into a 10-9 victory as
‘81 pushed the Selig Sectional to a fifth game.
‘56, trailing 8-6 in the bottom of the eighth, had taken the lead on Lou Berberet’s three-run double, unwittingly setting up Smalley’s heroics.
Before the late-inning chaos, there was early- and middle-inning chaos as
‘81 saw a 6-1 lead turn into a 6-6 tie. Having taken the lead on a Dave Engle three-run homer and extended it through the third and fourth innings,
‘56 used big hits of their own to tie the score, Herb Plews driving in three on a double in the fourth and Jose Valdivielso’s two-run single tying the game an inning later.
