Micron Technology's CEO Sanjay Mehrotra announced that its upcoming Gujarat facility will produce chips for Indian consumers and international clients. The Gujarat facility is the first major semiconductor company investment in India that plans to generate 5,000 job opportunities. Micron announced an $825 million investment on June 22 in its first chip assembly and test facility.

A year after U.S. President Joe Biden first launched what's known as the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, negotiations have yielded what Washington is calling a landmark agreement. VOA’s Chris Casquejo reports.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo described this decision as economic coercion, which will not be tolerated by the administration.

According to US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, China has restricted the sale of Micron Chips in certain domestic industries.

In a statement Sunday, Beijing warned operators of key infrastructure against buying the company’s goods, saying it found “relatively serious” cybersecurity risks in Micron products sold in the country.
