DBA to launch Ambassador Services Program


Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Downtown Business Association is poised to launch its Ambassador Services Program this summer.
An ordinance was introduced at this week's Assembly meeting that amends the budget to in part provide the program $15,000.
DBA President Midgi Moore talked about the program while a guest on Action Line.  She said they have made the decision to bring the program in-house and hire directly rather contract with another organization to manage the program.  "That way we can handle the training and the management of the ambassadors and their role literally is an ambassador."
She said they'll be walking downtown with shirts that say DBA on it and wearing buttons that say "Ask me. I live here."   "Their goal is to help visitors find things that they're looking for and direct them to different things."  In addition, she said the ambassadors will  also report scary things that might be happening or things that are questionable and report those to  police or to whomever needs to be notified."

The 49th state and self-styled Last Frontier is benefitting big from the pent-up demand for summer travel.
Not only is Alaska open for tourism, but the state’s geographic vastness means social distancing was a thing well before coronavirus. It is no wonder, then, that airlines, including Alaska Airways and rival Delta Air Lines, have ramped up service as demand nears pre-pandemic levels.
“My administration is aggressively marketing Alaska and Alaskans to the rest of the country and world,” Gov. Mike Dunleavy said. “I am more than optimistic that the summer 2021 tourism season in Alaska will rebound and communities across the state will be able to welcome visitors and show off exactly what makes our state one of the best destination places in the world.”
