Bustos Won't Seek Sixth Term

MOLINE, Illinois -- Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos won't run for another term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Moline Democrat posted a YouTube video Friday morning saying she won't seek a sixth term.
In the video, Bustos says her announcement now should give those who want to run for the seat enough time to plan their campaigns.
Bustos was elected to her first term in Illinois' 17th House District in 2012.

Illinois' Cheri Bustos won't seek reelection, will retire after 2022

U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos announced Friday that she won't seek a sixth term in Congress next year ahead of a redrawing of Illinois congressional district maps.
The Moline Democrat was reelected last year in a close race against Republican Esther Joy King and ran House Democrats' campaign operations during the 2020 elections.
"My North Star has always been to serve my community, drive real results and build a better future," she said in a statement announcing her decision. "As I turn every corner on each decade of life, I take time to reflect and evaluate what my next chapter might bring. That’s how, 10 years ago, I decided to run for Congress."

U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill., wonât run for re-election next year. The five-term congresswoman is making a public announcement today that she will end her run in the House after her term ends.
Bustos said her decision came after a periodic assessment of her career, something she says sheâs done every 10 years. The Moline Democrat said her health is good and that she has no future job lined up, other than to continue representing the 17th District.
âI have no plans over these next 20 months to do anything but great work for this congressional district,â Bustos said in a telephone interview. âIâll be able to figure this out. I always have big dreams and big hopes, and so Iâm confident that whatever the next chapter is, it will be something where Iâll be in a position to help make a difference.

Bustos Stresses Importance Of COVID-19 Vaccinations During Clinic Tour

U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos got a first-hand look at COVID-19 vaccination efforts in Tazewell County on Friday, and she urged citizens to get their shots as soon as possible to bring a quicker end to the pandemic.
“This is within our control as far as wearing masks, keeping your social distance, not getting together in mass numbers, and getting vaccinated,” the Moline Democrat said, adding emphasis to the last item on her list.
“Out of the you know goodness of your heart, think about your community. Think about those people who are working in health care; think about those first responders. They're getting worn out, and we have this within our control to get this in a better place," she said.

Bustos, a Moline Democrat, said she believes the Biden's inauguration marks a new, more hopeful day for America.
"President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, have now joined the ranks of those who have served at its highest levels. It's a celebratory moment. It's one that will be marked in our history books. And it's one that we gotta acknowledge that today's celebration follows one in American history that future generations will look back on in dismay," said Bustos, citing the COVID-19 pandemic, its resulting economic fallout, and two impeachment trials in the House.
