A Chinese health official warned people and asked them not to touch foreigners after mainland China reported its first confirmed case of monkeypox infection.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a total of 52,997 people have been infected with the monkeypox virus. Of the cases registered in the last four weeks, 70.7 per cent came from the US and 28.3 per cent from Europe.

Monkeypox: Myocarditis has also been reported in other monkeypox patients from the 2022 outbreak, although infectious disease specialists think it is most likely a rare consequence.
