According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a total of 52,997 people have been infected with the monkeypox virus. Of the cases registered in the last four weeks, 70.7 per cent came from the US and 28.3 per cent from Europe.
Monkeypox is primarily transmitted when an individual has prolonged/repeated contact with an infected person, the Health Ministry.
To conduct this study on monkeypox virus, a team from the CDC used cotton swabs and collect samples from the surface of different objects.
India has so far reported nine cases of monkeypox including one death. A 31-year-old woman tested positive for Monkeypox in the national capital on Wednesday. This is the first case of the disease among women in the country. Out of the total of nine cases, four cases are from Delhi while the remaining five have been reported from Kerala.
Monkeypox scare: The 35-yr-old Nigerian man has no recent foreign travel history. This is the 8th case in India.
