A public defender for Rashid Davis, the man accused of killing a fellow patient at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, rejected an offer that would have sentenced the defendant to 30 years in prison if he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
Although the move appears to indicate the defense will seek a trial, Public Defender Susan McKoy did not commit to that decision during an online hearing before state Superior Court Judge Stephen Taylor on Monday.
McKoy said she was severely hampered by an inability to get an expert psychiatrist to evaluate Davis at the new institution to which he was moved after the alleged murder on New Year s Eve 2019.
