Just moments ago the president nominated chuck hagel, the former republican senator from nebraska to be the next secretary of defense, succeeding leon panetta, and he nominated john brennan, counterterrorism Homeland Security adviser in the white house to be the next director of the cia, succeeding the acting director, mike morell, who took over in november when john David Petraeus stepped down following an extramarital affair with his biographer.
