Swatting Calls Made In Several Areas

Salem Police plus several other agencies responded to Salem Community High School on Wednesday following a call into police of an active shooter at the school. Salem Community High School is not the only school that received a call in the area. Around 9:45 AM, Centralia Police reported a similar situation. All units in Centralia plus units from Wamac, Illinois State Police, and the Illinois Secretary of State Police showed up on scene. Around 9:48 AM, Mount Vernon Police, according to the departments Facebook Page say that they received a phone call reporting an active shooter at the Mt Vernon Township High School. The caller additionally reported multiple injuries. All available law enforcement units, numbering over 20 officers, from the Mt Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and Illinois State Police responded to scene. The Mt Vernon Fire Department, Jefferson County Fire Protection District, United Medical Response and Litton's Ambulance Service also responded all available units. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department School Resource Officer was on scene at the high school. The school resource officer was contacted and reported having no issues at the school. However, as a precautionary measure the high school was placed on lock down and officers conducted a sweep of the school. Reports similar to this have been made to numerous dispatch centers throughout the state of Illinois this morning. Our detectives will be working with state and federal authorities as it is believed these false calls originate outside the United States. Headlines for Tuesday, November 2nd

Election With less than a week to go before election day, County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow says early and mail in voting is picking up though not to 2020 levels. It started slow, but Woodrow says there's reason for that. Compared to 2020, that's nearly a third fewer early vote ballots cast, but quadruple the number of vote by mail ballots requested. Woodrow attributes that to a mandatory mailing that forced her office to have to send out notices to everyone in the county offering permanent vote by mail opportunities. If you're still interested in voting, Woodrow says we're still in the grace period for unregistered voters so you can visit the county clerk's office but you'll need to vote at the same time you register. For everyone registered to vote, Woodrow says there's no excuse for not doing so as her office will be open from 8am until 7pm through the remainder of the week and on Monday. The County Clerk's office will also hold Saturday hours from 8am – noon. ### WGH Reduced Lab Wabash General Hospital is having a Reduced Lab Event next Thursday at their Primary Care in Grayville (610 N Court) from 6:30-8:30am.
