Its decision drew plaudit from the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and civil society organisations. A cross-section of Nigerians had in the last few weeks opposed the nomination of Onochie on the basis that she is a card-carrying member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in her home state, Delta and, therefore, called on the Senate to reject her nomination.

The two nominees are a presidential aide, Ms. Lauretta Onochie, and Professor Sani Adam. THISDAY gathered that the Senate committee will make the final decision on the two nominees latest by Tuesday before forwarding its recommendations to the upper chamber the following day.
