Fond du Lac Audubon Society invites community to walk, appreciate nature.
View Comments FOND DU LAC - Dressed for the outdoors and spring’s fickle weather changes, a gathering of nature enthusiasts scour a path along a walking trail built on an old railroad bed that runs through rural Fond du Lac County. Among the spring greenery, the group is on the hunt for garlic mustard and buckthorn, both are invasive species, and a bane to Wisconsin’s ecosystem. Brought here by German immigrants, one was used as a tasty ingredient in soups and stews and the other served as a hedge shrub, with berries that made for a good laxative.
