The Army is cutting 24,000 positions in a restructuring prompted by the changing nature of today's battlefield, as the service faces its most dire recruiting challenge since the end of the draft more than 50 years ago.
The Army will expend its air defense forces by 7,500 soldiers while cutting thousands of unfilled positions, including special operations.
“We are transforming our force structure, we are transforming our weapons systems through our modernization programs and what we've done, through the force structure changes, is make room for some new formations,” said Army Secretary Christine Wormuth.
