There's a possible new solution to finding the source of an odor plaguing the Murray Hill area.
On Monday the Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board was given a presentation from a so-called environmental intelligence advisor Envirosuite.
Envirosuite representatives say they can pinpoint the source of the smell using technology like sensors that collect data 24/7. They say they're doing a similar study in Denver.
The ability to get data on the odor all the time is where progress is held up now.

Odor gripes lead to citation, lawsuit for Westside Jacksonville plant

To some, the smell is almost inescapable.
“It’s a really strong chemical smell, similar to turpentine or Pine Sol,” said Ben Thompson, who has lived 13 years in his house in Jacksonville’s Murray Hill area. He said the odor there, which comes and goes erratically, has gotten stronger in the past few years and harder to ignore.
“Previously, you had the option to retreat into your house,” Thompson said. “Now, it’s such an invasive thing that you’ll be lying in bed and smell it.”
Since fall, the odor, which can irritate throats and sinuses and trigger dull headaches, has sparked waves of complaints to City Hall, a class-action lawsuit and anxiety over whether whatever people are smelling is harmful.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville manufacturer that produces flavors, fragrances, and cosmetic actives is at the center of a new class-action lawsuit.
Residents who live near the International Flavors and Fragrances, IFF, say they are fed up with a stinking smell that they say has been coming from the factory for years.
Imagine the smell of Pine-Sol, but magnified. That’s how some neighbors have described what they’re smelling day in, day out in Murray Hill. A woman named Erin spoke to News4Jax but declined to give her last name. She says she first noticed the smell 3 years ago.

A 'vile' smelling odor is at the root of a new lawsuit, which hit a snag this week due to language technicalities.
Three Jacksonville residents are suing a local fragrance factory, saying its 'noxious' emissions are destroying their quality of life.
First Coast News has been following this story since last year as the chemical odor continues to impact people from Riverside to Ortega.
The lawsuit means residents are taking their fight to a new level.
Allegations in the civil action lawsuit call the odor "vile and sickening” and “indecent and offensive to people with ordinary health and sensibilities." The lawsuit was filed on Jan. 6 against International Flavors and Fragrances, a fragrance factory on Lane Avenue.
