Young Fans Fuel Demand for Pop Vinyl Records

Record Store Day, August 29, 2020 in London.
"The vinyl buyer is not just a 55-year-old white guy," says Matt Harmon, president of Beggars Group U.S.
Early last year, executives at the New England music chain Newbury Comics were discussing pulling back on vinyl, thinking the format’s comeback might have run its course. Then, during the pandemic, sales picked up, thanks to a new kind of customer: young people.
"The pandemic totally remade who the vinyl customer was," says
Carl Mello, Newbury’s brand engagement director. "Teenagers who haven’t had to move yet don’t know the pain of moving vinyl, so they’re the perfect people to collect it."

Pamplin Media Group - PDX Jazz Fest: Live (and virtual) from South Africa to the Rose City

February 15 2021
International concerts, music films, local shows mark the 18th event, which had to change like everything else.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic began and normal life went away, the Biamp PDX Jazz Festival took place as usual in 2020 with in-person concerts.
"We wrapped our last day of the 2020 festival 10 days before the COVID shutdown happened," said Nicholas Salas-Harris, the festival's artistic director. "We were literally one of the only jazz festivals to go to in 2020."
Well, if anything, they had a lot of time to plan for the 2021 festival, although Salas-Harris, Executive Director Chris Doss and the whole crew entered the summer of 2020 still believing the PDX Jazz Festival would happen live again. Once it appeared live wouldn't be possible and it would have to be virtual, organizers set about trying to make the best festival possible. (Upon last week's announcement that the Portland tri-county area's pandemic status had been upgraded and that some indoor venues could open, it was too late to arrange for in-person events).

Portland Brewing To Close Its Portland Brewery

Portland Brewing To Close Its Northwest Portland Brewery
After closing its onsite taproom and restaurant over two years ago,
Portland Brewing will permanently close and cease brewing operations at its brewery in Northwest Portland on February 5, 2021. This location also brews beers for
Pyramid Brewing and this brand will continue on as a few of its brands will be brewed elsewhere.
Portland Brewing first came on the scene as one of the original Oregon breweries of the modern craft beer movement. The brewery was founded in 1986 by Art Larrance, Fred Bowman and Jim Goodwin at the corner of NW Flanders and 14th. Portland Brewing eventualy vacated this location to build a larger facility in the Portland’s Northwest Industrial area. The brewery’s original location went on to become the Rogue Public House for a run that lasted 20 years until it closed down in September 2020.
