The city of more than 4,000 people held a contest to name its three snowplows, and the winners were announced during Wednesday s Scandia City Council meeting.
City Council member Patti Ray came up with the idea as a fun diversion amid a long COVID-19 winter in Scandia, she said Wednesday when announcing the winning names.
The names will be stenciled on the side of the city s snowplows. ....

Louisville Zoo announces names of new baby seal: Finsbay

The new baby seal at the Louisville Zoo officially has a name. Thursday, the Louisville Zoo revealed the name of the gray seal pup as Finsbay, pronounced Fins-bee. Finsbay was just one of the three names listed in the Help Us Name the Seal Pup contest. The other names were Oban and NOAA. Glacier Run keeper Tracy Unger put forth Finsbay as a name in the contest because the natural habitat for gray seals includes the Northern Atlantic Ocean s coasts, including Scotland. Off the western coast of Scotland is a group of islands called the Outer Hebrides, and Finsbay is a town in that group of islands. Finsbay is known for its trout, arctic char, sea trout, and salmon fishing, making it a logical stopping point for harbor and gray seals.
