An investigation into some healthcare facilities in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, showed how some health workers collected money and issued COVID-19 cards to people without vaccination, Olaleye Aluko report. Akin Niniola, an Ondo State government worker, clutched a COVID-19 vaccination card to his chest with same enthusiasm expected from a graduate who got an appointment letter.
A panel of medical experts has said that Nigeria still has a long way to go, having vaccinated only 25million or 12 per cent of its population against the COVID-19 virus. The experts added that the country had weak data collection methods in the healthcare systems, while noting that Nigeria needed a more critical response to the pandemic and the preparedness of the country for any future outbreak.
