While growing up in Chicago and Houston, Catherine’s love for art, music and creative writing was influenced by her teachers and parents. She was once concertmaster of the Clear Lake High School Orchestra and a four-time violinist of the Texas All-State Symphony. A graduate of the University of Chicago, Catherine majored in English. Throughout college, she was a classical DJ on the campus station WHPK 88.5 FM, serving Hyde Park and south-side Chicago. Returning to Houston in 1999, she joined KRTS 92.1 FM as one of their chief announcers. She was the host of “Midnight 'Til Dawn” and “Seabrook Journal,” a public affairs program, until the station closed in Fall 2004. Joining KUHF 88.7 FM soon afterwards, she became the host of “Sunday Afternoon Concert” for several years, when the station was dual format (news and classical music).  From 2011 – 2013, she hosted the weekday “Afternoon Concert” on Houston Public Media’s then-sister station, KUHA Classical 91.7.  An arts and culture producer since 2014, Catherine currently produces news stories, features and interviews with musicians, writers, artists and performers. Special projects include producing the National Poetry Month Series, Voices and Verses, and the arts podcast, Unwrap Your Candies Now. She is also the “voice” of Houston Public Media, providing the voice-overs for TV 8 and radio spots. In her spare time, Catherine loves to spend time with her husband, daughter, and cat Cheeto.
