Nigerian Students' Association, NANS Releases Nationwide Protest Timetable, Plans To Shut Down Abuja Over Prolonged Strike By University Lecturers, ASUU

  The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has disclosed its plan to embark on a nationwide protest over the government’s failure to address the lingering strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other staff unions. This was made known in a circular signed by the union president, Usman Umar Barambu and dated Monday, September 19, 2022. In the circular, Barambu directed all zonal coordinators and students' unions of various schools to mobilise their members for the massive action.

How Nigerian Industrial Court Granted Directive By Labour Minister, Ngige To Order Striking University Lecturers, ASUU To Resume Work

The order by the National Industrial Court asking the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end its current strike and resume classes is the result of a directive given to the court by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige. The Nigerian government had directed the National Industrial Court to order ASUU members to resume work, while the issues in dispute were being addressed by the court. The referral instrument addressed to the Registrar of Industrial Court was dated September 7, 2022, and signed by the labour minister.
