FORMATION NOTES: Rutgers uses a blizzard of different fronts but spends the game in a nickel with said nickel over the slot almost all the time, and then that guy gets nosy in the box almost all of the time. Here they've shifted their line over to the strength of the formation and the nickel is the littlest LB closes to the center of the field. SUBSTITUTION NOTES: Usual at QB, obviously. Edwards got more carries earlier than usual; seemed like Corum may have been ill and Michigan was trying to limit his usage. At TE, Schoonmaker went out for a portion of the game and this led to more Love...

About Last Week I feel bad for Mel Tucker right now. Not THAT bad, of course. There is a limit to how bad you can feel for someone making $26,000 per day to produce Indiana-level results. But I do have some sympathy. After all, while many things that have been his fault this year, this one is on the previous regime. Mark Dantonio built a machine. An amazing machine. A powerful machine. A wonderous, marvelous, fantastical Michigan-Hating Machine. An energy-producing perpetual aggrievement device that violated the first law of thermodynamics (which was fine, because “laws,” and the enforceme...

The UFR Glossary. Substitution Notes: Smith most of the way, Jenkins was in for about half, Graham got his usual quarter-ish, and Rayshaun Benny got more play than usual, with Grant and Goode getting some run late. End was a rotation led by Morris. Harrell got in first and as much as Okie but the balance shifted towards Upshaw later, with 2 drives for D.Moore and McGregor. Linebacker was Colson and Barrett until garbage time. At CB, Turner went the whole way, and Sainristil most of it moving outside for a few snaps as Gemon Green gave more time to him and Johnson after the TD drive. Moore and...

The UFR Glossary. Substitution Notes: Penn State spent most of the day with multiple TEs on the field but used them primarily as receivers. Michigan was answering with nickel personnel. DT snaps were ~90% Smith, 60% Jenkins, 40% Graham, 25% Benny and a few appearances of Grant but not Goode. Edge saw more Okie than Harrell and lots more Upshaw and Moore, with McGregor not playing till the last drive. LB was Colson/Barrett with Mullings in on a couple of 2nd half passing downs and Rolder playing late. Will Johnson got more snaps when Green got hurt but he returned; Turner was omnipresent. Sainr...

The UFR Glossary. Substitution Notes: Edge was the most interesting; Morris and Upshaw were the starters and played 2/3 of snaps but Okie rotated in for 4-down fronts and outplayed McGregor and Upshaw. D.Moore came in to pass rush when Morris was inside. Paige started over Moore then rotated drives with Moten. CBs were the usual Turner/Green with Johnson spelling each for a drive. Sainristil came off for an extra DL when Iowa went to 2WR sets. LBs were mostly Colson and Barrett but Rolder and Mullings got in a little bit. Mazi Smith went almost the whole way (PFF missed that Goode was in late)...
