Gujarat: Govt issues advisory on fungal infection with 'nearly 50 pc mortality rate'

The infection has been reported in Covid-19 patients in Ahmedabad and Rajkot .
The Gujarat health department on Monday issued an advisory about the fungal infection, mucormycosis, which has a “mortality rate of nearly 50 per cent”, reported in “Covid-19 patients in Ahmedabad and Rajkot”.
“Mucormycosis is a type of fungal disease which infects those with compromised immune system, and with other existing diseases, is a serious infection with a mortality rate of nearly 50 per cent,” the advisory stated.
The advisory by the department additional director was marked to the divisional deputy health directors of state health department, chief district health officers of district health departments and municipal corporation medical health officers, along with additional director of the labour office. ....

A 40-year-old private tuition teacher allegedly fell to death from the terrace of a 14-storey commercial complex at Vishala Circle in Ahmedabad on Monday morning, police said.
According to police, the body of Parth Tank, a resident of Vrindavan Society near Dharnidhar Derasar in Ahmedabad, was found at the parking entry of Rajyash Rise commercial building at Vishala Circle in Ahmedabad. ....

Marine commando found dead with bullet injury from service gun
According to police, the deceased, Mahesh Chauhan, was living at a rented residence in Shivdhara Society at Anjar. His body with a bullet injury on head was found at his residence by a neighbour around 5.30 pm on Saturday.

As per the police, an MP5 automatic submachine gun issued to Chauhan for official purpose was found near the body.

Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel on Sunday said that since schools, colleges and anganwadis in the state are closed due to Covid-19pandemic, as per a decision of the central government, parents of the children are being provided cash in lieu of the food that the government is unable to serve under mid-day-meal scheme.
From that cash, the parents have to buy additional ration from fair price shops, he added.
Interacting with media persons, the deputy chief minister was replying to a question about a notice by the Gujarat High Court to the state government over a survey conducted by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) and UNICEF Gujarat. ....

Daily Covid tally falls in Gujarat, seven more dead

With just 1,010 new Covid-19 cases, Gujarat saw a further decline in daily virus tally on Sunday. After a peak post-Diwali, the state recorded 1,026 cases a day ago.
A total of 2,34,553 cases have been reported from the state so far, as seven more persons succumbed to the virus taking the toll to 4,259.
Dr Sandeep Jhala, an interventional radiologist at Ahmedabad’s Apollo Hospital, also succumbed to the infection on Sunday. The 63-year-old, a resident of Shilaj area, was undergoing treatment at the hospital since December 4. He was also a faculty at the Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute (GCRI), Asarwa. ....
