Apr 26, 2021 Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School senior Emma Niebuhr won first place in the Minnesota State Speech Competition in Extemporaneous Reading. MVL advanced three students to state for a virtual speech meet in two categories: Niebhur in Extemporaneous Reading and seniors Nick Pleiss and Andy Muske in Duo Interpretation. Niebuhr, who was recently named a member of the MSCA All-State Speech Team, won first place in her category, ending her four-year career in Speech at MVL. Mar 1, 2021 NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School had its best Speech meet of the season on Saturday, Feb. 27 when they participated in Mankato East High School’s Speech Fiesta. Bethany Spike and Estrella Strackbein earned 1st in novice Duo Interpretation, while Nicole Schumann and Emma Niebuhr earned 5th in varsity Duo Interpretation and Nick Pleiss and Andy Muske earned 4th. Emma Niebuhr also earned 1st place in Extemporaneous Reading, Joseph Schroeder earned 5th in Great Speeches (moving out of novice and into varsity), and Caleb Tomhave received 6th place in Original Oratory. All of the students who competed in the poetry competition went to finals, with Dora Grubbs receiving 4th place and Mary Niebuhr earning 2nd place in the novice division while Gracen Lukasek earned 4th and Maggie Spike came in 3rd in varsity. MVL came in 4th overall.
