so the storm system set to impact us later today is developing back towards the West. We are going to see the potential of a quick little burst of some light rain showers or even some snow showers in the mountains. Wouldn't be surprised for a few sleet pellets or even a few snowflakes to mix it in the upstate, but shouldn't be a big deal is this First little arm of moisture moves our way later today. This really ramps up tonight, beginning as early as 2 a.m. and then ramps up to about 5 a.m. That looks to be the peak of the storm for the mountains. And then it's gonna change to rain, even in the mountains where we're going to see some problems. There's a winter storm warning for Henderson County and then the higher elevations of Polk and Rutherford counties up toward the Hickory Nut Gorge Lake, Lower back cave chimney rock up through McDowell County. Basically anybody on the eastern facing slopes of the mountains. They're gonna have the trouble with this because of your elevation and the fact that that cool air pools at the base of the mountains a little bit longer, then areas toward the West. Now this is typically Ah, little bit opposite from what we would see normally. The Western Mountains would see higher impacts because of the Northwest flow, but this is a different type of set up. So now there's a winter weather advisory for a little bit. Lower impacts in Asheville. Still some slick spots possible the lower elevations of Rutherford in Polk County and then along the 85 corridor north in the foothills of North Carolina, basically going over from Cleveland County, up toward Lincoln Gaston County, up through Iredell County in the 40 corridor regions. And then you got the Southwest Mountains like Haywood County, Jackson County Swing County. You could have some impact, but you folks in Clay Graham, Macon County's Cherokee County, is not going to see his high of impacts. Uh, regardless, we're all going to see a cold rain, and that rain is gonna be heavy at times going into Sunday morning. But for parts of the mountains where I just showed you, that is going to be a wintry mix, eventually changing to rain. And as we go into Sunday morning, there could be some icy spots that develop when I look at all the data that I have at my disposal right now, as far as the ice impacts are concerned, I think this is really gonna be a medium impact for the mountains and not all of the mountains is really going to be some areas in Henderson County, Polk, Rutherford County, North Eastbound through Eastern Buncombe County. McDowell and, of course, Yancey, Mitchell, Avery and Watauga counties. I could get 1/10 of an inch of ice up to a quarter of an inch. That means there could be some slick spots on the roads, especially those bridges and overpasses. There could be some isolated power issues, but I don't expect that to be a widespread problem because this does change over to rain as we go into the morning hours. So a brand new computer model just came in. Let's walk you through it. So here comes this little bit of moisture later on today, we're so dry here, the surface it's gonna be hard to get this to reach the ground. But I wouldn't at all be surprised for you to send us a message is to report to us that There's some sleet pellets falling in the upstate, or maybe even a few snowflakes mixed in with some rain showers. Then the sun will come right back out. This is a first little batch of moisture that quickly moves into some drier air. Could get a quick burst of some snow showers in Ashland and Hendersonville around 456 o'clock. Meteorologist Cedric Haynes will be mapping this out minute by minute on live Super Doppler four HD tonight beginning at six o'clock of WBFF news for. So make sure you tune in as we go deeper into the evening that moves out and really, we're gonna lull until the bulk of the precipitation moves in around 2 a.m. And this is going to be in the form of some sleet and snow in western North Carolina. There's gonna be some rain in the upstate, and as we go through 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. This is going to try to change to rain folks, but where it does not and kinda holds on a little bit longer is this area like I showed you banking up against the eastern part of the higher elevations in the mountains and this area right here. Eyes going to hold on to that cold air. The longest so Eastern Henderson County, up through Rutherford, Polk County, Eastern Buncombe County. Those areas gonna have about a half an inch to an inch of snow and sleet on the ground, and then some ice is going to try to come in on top of that around 5 a.m. But look at this by 678 o'clock rains taken over for the majority of the mountains. And then by 11 o'clock, it's all rain, basically everywhere on the mountains. Seeing rain, the upstate Seeing mawr, Heavy rainfall, Azzawi Go toward Hartwall Toccoa, Elberton Abbeyville Greenwood. Periods of some moderate rain will pick up about an inch in northeast Georgia through the upstate. It's gonna be kind of a sloppy Sunday morning for us and so cold upper thirties to around 40 degrees at best. So though the heaviest rain is in the morning, you can't rule out some showers in the afternoon hours. It's gonna be a little bit more hit or miss, though you have a better chance of having a little bit of dry time outside. If you have to go grab the groceries, do anything outdoors. But all in all, there's gonna be a chance for rain basically all day through the evening hours when things begin to move on out. So the snow and sleet potential tonight going through Sunday morning. Right now, it looks like the higher elevations could pick up a quick 2 to 4, maybe even five inches from Boon to Spruce Pine. This would be Yancey, Mitchell, Avery and Watauga counties, maybe an inch or so in McDowell County, Eastern Buncombe County. Maybe a quick coating a dust into a half an inch in Hendersonville en de Ville bear while a mountain up through Lake Kluwer. And then it's going to be about the ice. And I want to show you a wide view of the ice first, because it's possible that the northern parts of Greenville and Spartanburg County, the mountainous areas basically glassy mountain highway 11 north bound, could see a light glaze of ice in the trees. But I don't expect it calls much in the way of problems, Okay, but we'll keep a close eye on that. Could a slick spot be possible in some isolated areas? Yes, but this is really gonna be ramping up once you touch the North Carolina line, go up toward the North, where parts of Henderson County, this model showing about 3/10 of an inch. I don't think we'll see that much because rain's gonna mix in a swell but maybe a quarter of an inch of ice in some locations of Henderson County, stretching up the eastern spine of the mountains here through Marium Rutherford and and parts of Columbus. And again, I think it's this area right here that's gonna have the trouble with possibly some travel issues going into the morning hours. But by 11 a.m. or so this is moving on out so early church services having higher impacts on. Of course, we'll have the latest on those closings beginning first thing in the morning on WBFF news for today. So make sure you tune in there so the four day looks like this. We've got increasing clouds today, a high only 48 degrees. It's going to be rainy and cold on our Sunday. An impact day there, with the possibility of an inch of rain, clears out by Monday. But we stayed chilling highs only in the forties and then going into Wednesday, were in the fifties and then approaching the sixties As we go into the latter half of the week for the mountains, we've got an impact day for potential wintry concerns. First thing in the morning that could lead to some travel trouble spots in parts of Henderson County. Buncombe County North bound. It's an impact day. That mix will change to rain by mid morning, and then, as we get into the evening hours, it's gonna change back to snow for the Northwestern counties. These areas really didn't see much in the early part of the day. But as colder air rushes in, that'll change whatever rain is left over to some snow where the Tennessee North Carolina line swing county, northern Heywood, Jackson County elevations above 3000 ft could pick up Ah, quick 1 to 2 inches of rain. Or I should say snow. By the time this is all said and done, it's gonna be cold on Tuesday high only 38 degrees, then rebounding to the middle fifties by the end of the week. So what you can count on from us, we're gonna keep you up to date throughout the day. We'll have the new model run tonight on WBFF news for its six and 11 o'clock in the beginning. First thing. Tomorrow morning, we'll have the latest on church closings. Should there be any any travel trouble spots will have those mapped out for you and we'll get you through. This looks to be moderate ice for parts of the mountains and a cold rain from any of the upstate. Anything changes, folks will let you know. Hope you have a great day.

way have a pretty strong cold front that's coming through the area right now. It's gonna bring us some heavy rain at times across the mountains and the upstate, with a chance for a quick, wintry mix, mainly along north of I 85. This morning, I think most of us are going to see just rain. But don't be surprised if you don't hear a couple pellets or maybe a little freezing rain mixing in again early until our temperatures warm up a little bit. All of this rain will be tapering off by tonight in the mountains. We're seeing a wintry mix already this morning, basically north of I 40 more snow than anything, and just south of that line is seeing some sleet and freezing rain mixing in with rain. So just know that we could see some icy spots on bridges and overpasses, especially but also on area roads this morning, especially where we have a winter storm warning in effect until four o'clock this afternoon, that includes portions of Hendersonville and Rutherford and a good chunk of our viewing area. Just along in north of I, 41 to 4 inches of snow is possible in that area and then just to the west of that, we've got something a little bit less a winter weather advisory until noon with 1 to 2 inches of snowfall. But these were all gonna be kind of those hot spots for the potential for icy spots on roads. Early this morning started temperatures off right about freezing and slightly above that. So these air areas, especially in the mountains, where we could just have a little bit of sleep, a little freezing rain mixing in with rain at times across the upstate Temperatures started in the mid thirties dewpoints watching the moisture in the atmosphere very carefully because this shows us just how far our temperatures can actually fall. So there's still a chance that we still could have a couple of areas of freezing this morning. And again, if that happens, that would briefly change our rain to a little wintry mixing parts of the upstate. I don't think there's a good chance for that to happen again. I think most of us are going to see just rainfall, but there is a chance this is being driven by a very strong low pressure system that's dragging along a cold front. That cold front is kind of the first step. And then, as we get some wraparound moisture behind this low, that's gonna bring us some mawr light snow to the mountains as we go into tomorrow morning. Starting the morning off, though with some rainfall, some freezing rain across Hendersonville rather for 10 back into Franklin and color we and then, of course, some mountain snow, especially in higher elevations. So let's walk you through it as we go throughout the next several hours. Still going to see some pink here, some areas of freezing rain mixing in with rain at times, even as we go into 89 maybe even 10 o'clock this morning. But most of the upstate is just going to see several rounds of heavy rainfall. As we get into say, 11, 12 o'clock today, we're going to start to see this front really kind of pushed through the area, and then we're going to see a nice tapering off heading into late this afternoon might see a couple misting or a couple light showers, but for the most part, most of this is gonna be gone. Then we'll have kind of a lingering strand ahead of this wrap around moisture. That's gonna come in tomorrow morning. Most of the snow there is gonna be focused on the Tennessee North Carolina line in higher elevations, but can't rule out maybe a little bit of light snow across Asheville color we maybe even into rather for 10 in Hendersonville early tomorrow morning before it's all said and done. So in terms of how much rainfall we're expecting, it's gonna be about half an inch to an inch across the area. Some locations. I wouldn't be surprised. Honestly, Honestly, if we don't get a little bit more than that, this rate is gonna come down pretty heavy as we go until later this morning. But it's gonna be moving through pretty quickly, and that is good news. It's really all about the ice and sleet. Potential is we go into today and tomorrow morning. Most of this is just snowfall. So some of us could see an Asheville all the way back to the West. About an inch or less than an inch of snow really will be the average. But as you travel up in along I 40 you could see 34 or five inches of snow from this point to the afternoon. So here you go forties. Today it's gonna be a cold rain for most of us tomorrow. Some of those winds settling in on the back end of that low pressure as high pressure slides in. That's gonna create a wind tunnel effect. So blustery tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday. Talk about gorgeous day is Groundhog Day is Tuesday. That is the halfway point from the winter solstice to the spring equinox. We'll see if we have six more weeks of winter. But I'll tell you, we're gonna be warming up in the meantime with highs near 60 in the upstate by Friday, mid fifties in the mountains.
