Based on feedback from the public on its plan to increase freshwater fishing, hunting, and trapping fees for the first time in 25 years, MassWildlife is now proposing smaller stamp and permit fee hikes and a multi-year phase-in for higher license fees. The agency will hold three public hearings on its revised plan next month. When it announced its intention to raise fees for hunting and fishing, MassWildlife said the changes were necessary to make up for declines in the number of licenses purchased and rising costs that threaten to sap the agency of its primary funding source within three years. ....

Norwell Recreation to host fishing derby COURTESY OF NORWELL RECREATION The 2021 Norwell Recreation Fishing Derby has been rescheduled to May 22 due to town meeting being shifted to May 8. The event is free for all participants however, to control the amount of participants, online pre-registration will be required for one of three one hour time slots. The slots are 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., 8 to 9 a.m. and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The event will be limited to Norwell residents only. The Fishing Derby is scheduled to be held rain or shine. Participants should bring their own rod, tackle and bucket. Kayaks and non-motorized boats are allowed. ....
Registration to open for Norwell Recreation summer programs COURTESY OF NORWELL RECREATION Online registration for all summer 2021 Norwell Recreation programs will begin at 10 a.m. May 5 for Norwell residents only. Mail-in, walk-in and non-resident registration will begin at 10 a.m. May 12. Summer 2021 Norwell Recreation program guides will be delivered to all resident households and P.O. Boxes between April 15 and 17. Families are recommended to confirm account passwords, update existing accounts or set up new accounts prior to May 5 to ensure a smooth online registration process on the day of registration.
