Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande has warned that securing extra funding to erase the shortfall at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme s (NSFAS) will rob the poor of services.

The minister briefed the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education, Science and Technology in Parliament amid the ongoing protests by students on Wednesday morning.

This while the shortfall at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges amount is just under R1 billion.

Satellite imagery shows that the area covered by kelp forests off the coast of Northern California has dropped by more than 95%, with just a few small, isolated patches of the bull kelp remaining. Species-rich kelp forests have been replaced by urchin barrens, where purple sea urchins cover a seafloor devoid of kelp and other algae.
A new study led by U.S. National Science Foundation-funded researchers at the University of California, Santa Cruz documents this dramatic shift in the coastal ecosystem and analyzes the events that caused it. An engineering innovator has developed a cloud-based platform aimed at mapping inter-industry dependence networks for materials and waste generation among manufacturers in sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and other industries tied to bio-based economies.
Shweta Singh of the Purdue College of Engineering led a team that developed a new method of automated creation of physical input-output tables to track flows in manufacturing networks. The work was funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation.
The physical input-output tables provide a detailed mapping of inter-industrial dependence to meet a manufacturing target that can help determine economic and environmental outcomes for manufacturing pathways based on material requirements. ....
