LAHORE: Former Sri Lanka pace bowler Nuwan Zoysa has been banned from all cricket for six years after an International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-corruption tribunal found him guilty of breaching its code, the sport’s governing body said on Wednesday. The ban for 42-year-old Zoysa, who has also had coaching stints with the Sri Lanka women’s team and the men’s ‘A’ squad, is retroactive from October 31, 2018 when he was provisionally suspended, the ICC added.
“Nuwan played 125 matches for Sri Lanka, attending a number of anti-corruption sessions during a decade-long international career,” Alex Marshall, ICC General Manager — Integrity Unit, said in a statement. “In his role as a national coach, he should have acted as a role model. Instead, he became involved with a corrupter and attempted to corrupt others. “Contriving to fix a game betrays the basis of sporting principles. It will not be tolerated in our sport.” In November, Zoysa was found guilty of match-fixing by an independent anti-corruption tribunal. Zoysa was provisionally suspended in 2018 and charged with three offences under the anti-corruption code, including “being party to an agreement or effort to fix” a match.

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s former Test cricketer and bowling coach Nuwan Zoysa was banned for six years on Wednesday by the International Cricket Council for match-fixing during a T10 tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
The ban on the 42-year-old is backdated to October 2018 when he was suspended pending an investigation into his conduct at the inaugural Sharjah tournament in 2017.
“Contriving to fix a game betrays the basis of sporting principles,” the ICC’s anti-corruption chief Alex Marshall said. “It will not be tolerated in our sport. “In his role as a national coach, he should have acted as a role model. Instead, he became involved with a corrupter and attempted to corrupt others.”

Dubai: Former Sri Lanka pacer Nuwan Zoysa was on Wednesday handed a six-year ban from all cricket after he was found guilty of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.
The ban for Zoysa is backdated to October 31, 2018, when he was provisionally suspended. As previously advised, following full hearings and presentations of written and oral argument, the Tribunal found Zoysa guilty of:

Former Sri Lanka player and coach Nuwan Zoysa has been banned from all cricket for six years for match fixing and associated offences.
The sanction follows the findings of an International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption Tribunal last November which found him guilty of breaching the ICC Code and is backdated to October 31, 2018, the date he was provisionally suspended.
Zoysa was found guilty on three charges last November after he had exercised his right to a hearing before a Tribunal:
Article 2.1.1 - for being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspect(s) of a match.
