Any application for UN membership is considered by a committee, then it must pass a vote at the Security Council where 5 states wield a veto, then the General Assembly votes.
The United Nations Security Council has forwarded Palestine's request for full membership in the organization to the New Members Admission Committee.
It would also demand “the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as ensuring humanitarian access to address their medical and other humanitarian needs”.
