By Mitchell Blair
Jul 20, 2021 | 3:54 PM
Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive lineman Evan Johnson was not on the field with his teammates Tuesday, but there was a good reason.
Head Coach Craig Dickenson says Johnson is about to become a father so he has left the team so he can be with his wife when she gives birth.   It is something Dickenson has no problem with.
“Evan can take as much time as he wants” Dickenson said. ” He can take as much time as he wants to be with his wife and to welcome the birth of their child. We just want him back for the first game healthy and ready to go. ....

Idowu looking to rise up depth chart, earn now-vacant starting linebacker job

Linebacker Oluwaseun Idowu at Saskatchewan Roughriders training camp on July 11, 2021. (Saskatchewan Roughriders)

Dean, who joined the Roughriders in February, is a three-time CFL divisional all-star and was the favourite to land the spot.
“That’s something I would never wish on anybody but it’s an opportunity and it’s really a next-guy-up mentality. You have your teammates around you, there’s guys around you, they expect things of you, coaches expect things of you (and) you expect things of yourself as well,” Idowu said after Sunday’s training camp workout at Mosaic Stadium. ....

Maas promises lots of Fajardo in ’21
By Derek Taylor
Jul 11, 2021 | 8:11 PM
Riders offensive coordinator Jason Maas promises and expects a lot of work from Cody Fajardo in the next three weeks. And then the 19 weeks of the CFL season.
Fajardo is one of four quarterbacks (soon to be five with Monday’s arrival of Paxton Lynch) in camp. But Fajardo will be significantly busier than the rest.
“The difference for him will be the first six days of camp he’ll get about 350 reps to everybody else’s 120,” says Maas. “And we have to split the reps between the other quarterbacks. So if you think about that number, that should blow your mind.” ....
