When you look at the rising inflation and taxes that have gone up, we need to be more responsible. we need to treat the federal government more like a business, rather than a bureaucracy. and we ve got to have consistency and clarity, not only for our defenses, here and abroad, but businesses also need to know what the economic horizon is going to look like. and i want to have a serious conversation about how do we balance the budget in the next five to ten years. how do we have some offsets to pay for some things that we need to do both discretionary and mandatory spending. but we re not having that conversation and that is what needs to happen. i think that is what kevin is banking on when the republicans are if the majority next year. if it is just a cr, which is what mcconnell is getting at, is that a problem for you? are you going to sign on to that? i m not going to support any spending messure, whether it is a cr or omnibus or spending bus that doesn t look at spending cut o ....

There will be some supplemental amendments that are voted on from then on, and kind of not specifically tied to, this and then the negotiations on the omnibus will happen next week. so eventually this is all going to get done. but as always, with the congress, it s not going to be easy. so we ll have to see how the whole thing plays out. can i ask you, i mean this in the most gentle of ways, what is the point of taking it to next week, and then just kick it again before christmas, to after christmas? so the hope is, at least, you know, by most of the members of congress, and we shouldn t say all, because certainly republicans that like to, as you say, kick it into next year, that they can get a tangible omnibus spending plan, the way that you re supposed to appropriate government funds, that would take it through the end of next year. and there is the belief that they can do that. they have agreed on a top line number. into next week. and they can do fla into the next week. so ....

The airport trying to await flights. one of the things that we re going to face in the coming days is there are only so many bus seats or so many plane seats going out of el paso. none of these people crossed with the attempt to stay here. they are trying to get somewhere else and it s going to be difficult to move them, especially as the numbers grow. but right now, the city s shelter capacities both with ngo shelters that traditionally house migrants plus the homeless shelters are completely overwhelmed. there s just to place right thousand to put them. and so local government officials are scrambling. congressional leaders are scrambling. there s some conversations going on about trying to get some money into the omnibus that s pending before congress to try to address this great humanitarian crisis here. peter, it s estimated once title 42 is lifted, there could be 10 to 12,000 border crossings ....
