Friday fishing report for Alabama Updated Apr 02, 2021; Lewis Smith Lake won’t be the place to fish for the next week or so, but you still may want to visit the spillway area to see something that rarely occurs—if the water rises as expected, it may pour out the overflow canyon on the west side of the dam for the first time in many years. Overflow starts at 522.0 feet elevation, and the forecast was for 521.7 feet Thursday night. If this happens, the water from the lake takes a long, circular route to the west before dumping back into the river well downstream of the dam.
